About the location

Villa Santa Lucia
60 Traverse Nicolas Marseille
  • Bouches-du-Rhône
  • Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
Registered in conformance with(for) historic monuments, the Villa Santa Lucia and his large garden present set(group) of architectures and of decorations(sets) in remarkable rocks of the XIXth century. Caves, waterfalls(stunts), conservatory, belvedere, gallery, day-nursery(crib), fortified castle, rooms of freshness with frescoes were realised in 1890s by the rocailleur Gaspar Gardini. This «large theatre» of rocks spread(displayed) on seven levels is particularly representative of the art of the rocailleurs from Marseille of time(period) 1900.
Benefiting from an exceptional microclimate all over its sheltered exhibition(exposure) and the closeness of the sea, the garden presents a collection of Mediterranean and subtropic vegetables gathering(collecting) many sorts(species) and rare gasolines(essences). He understands(includes) a beautiful collection of citrus fruits in potteries of Anduze, rosebushes and jasmine, Florentine cypresses, agavacées in the pockets of rocks, palm trees, a bamboo plantation, hundred-year-old majestic pines as well as a large vegetable garden at the bottom of property. The garden so became a real plant academy in its case of rocks.
The Villa is open to the public the summer and by appointment for guided tours for groups throughout the year.
