This villa, located at the foot of the archaeological site of the Roman Platform, was several overhauled and enlarged, notably in 1903 and 1905 for Senator Joseph Marius Thevenet. It was at this time that it took the name of «villa Marie». Sold in 1941, it was converted into a hotel-restaurant before being bought by the Mines of the Saar in 1952 to accommodate the employees of the German firm during their holidays. After the Malpasset dam disaster (1959), the city of Fréjus bought the Villa Marie with the help of the Association of European Municipalities and the International Red Cross, and installed the municipal library there in 1963. A French-style park of 2 ha, once inhabited by roses and fruit trees, is decorated with flowerbeds and various botanical species, many of which are of Mediterranean or exotic origin. Inside the villa, the rooms still bear witness to the layout of the former owners: neo-Gothic fireplaces or in the Renaissance style topped with mirrors, floor mosaics, Marble staircase turning two flights straight connecting the two levels of the house and private chapel decorated with murals.
