La Berthiere was one of the most important seigneuries in the region before the Revolution. The lands were divided between the parishes of Plessis, Pellouailles, Villevéque and Corzé. The castle, of which only one wing remains, dates back to the 12th century. The surviving constructions were modified in the 16th and 17th centuries. It was a castle surrounded by moats. This huge building had about forty fens, and one reached it to the west by a drawbridge. At the parish level, the seigneurs had the right of burial in the church of Plessis although they had their own chapel outside the moat.

La Bertière was, before the Revolution, the seat of a seigneury whose lands were divided between the parishes of Plessis, Pellouailles and Villevêque. The castle, of which only one wing remains, dates back to the thirteenth century. The surviving constructions are more recent, probably 16th-17th centuries.
It was a strong house surrounded by moats, today partly filled. This enormous building had about forty windows, and it was accessed by two bridges: to the east a stone bridge that still exists, to the west a drawbridge. On the parochial level, the seigneurs of La Bertière were attached to Plessis. But they had their own chapel, outside the moat, (landmark 329 of the cadastral plan), located in the parish of Villevêque.
