Discover freely this house of the Renaissance. It was initially a powerful fortified castle, in the 12th century, the castle of Goulaine is located on the Marches of Brittany, border between the Duchy and the kingdom of France. Initially, the Goulaine are Breton lords, serving the Duchy of Brittany. If some vestiges of its fortified past of the 12th century are still visible, the medieval building leaves its place at the end of the 15th century to a magnificent Corps de Logis Renaissance.
The initiative for this new construction, at the end of the 15th century, came from Christophe II de Goulaine. Sensitive to this new architecture emerging at the beginning of the Renaissance, he had his medieval castle replaced by a new flamboyant Gothic building.
It was in 1621 that Louis XIII, King of France, granted the Marquisate to the family. The living rooms on the first floor, testify to the architectural richness of the 17th century.
