Guided tour of the Tourasse of Sanilhac-Sagriès
In the heart of Uzège, in Sanilhac-Sagriès, stands a strange tower dating from the 12th century: the Tourasse, the last vestige of the original castle of the village. With an austere appearance and amputated from its three upper levels, it remains unknown and forgotten. However, it houses a treasure that deserves to be highlighted and preserved. It is probably in the 15th century that a dovecote was built on the first level of the building. This one has 325 boulins dug in the facing stones on the four faces. The balance and harmony of the whole are combined with a rare state of conservation, without having undergone any modification since its creation. The dovecote has an independent external access thanks to a stone staircase. On the lower floor, there is a Romanesque vault as well as archways with multiple voussoirs, also remarkable and very well preserved.
