Ambient intelligence
Samir Mougas is a versatile artist. In his artistic practice he is always looking for new stimuli. Indeed, beyond the interest in assembly, molding, modeling, resin, ceramics, lacquered aluminum casting and even automotive varnish, in his latest research he decided to question the tools related to intelligence
artificial (AI).
Samir Mougas uses these tools to inspire and generate forms as a prelude to his creations. By typing keywords, which work as prompts, the tool searches in a vast image bank what most corresponds to its request. Then, the artist rethinks the work creating his pieces in his studio.
As he himself said in an interview conducted specifically for the exhibition, “These tools helped me to look for something unknown and non-existent…I used these tools to generate things and come up with ideas. The image is generated from keywords that I write myself […] As if I were formulating a thought in my head, but instead of the image being made by my brain, it was made by these machines. And it’s interesting because at
level of imagination, there are things I would never have thought of.”
