The church of Saint-Mayme, erected as a parish, is mentioned as early as 1117 on the diocese of Périgueux. It was for centuries under the civil and military authority of the jurisdiction of Moncuq, an important stronghold located a few hundred meters west of the chapel.
It was from this fortress that, in 1345, the English attacked Bergerac, which was the beginning of the Hundred Years' War in Guyenne. It was dismantled “to no longer serve” by Richelieu in 1628.
As for the chapel, restored in 1966 by the Association of the Friends of the Chapel of Saint-Mayme, which moreover continues this work, it has found its soul and will welcome you on the Way to Compostela and on the GR6.
