Located in Saint-Avit-Rivière, in the Dordogne, on the road linking Cadouin to Monpazier, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church of Saint-Avit-Rivière is a beautiful religious building built in the 12th century and today listed as a Historic Monument for its bell-wall and its portal. Often reshaped over the centuries, it unveils in its interior some very beautiful sculpted capitals.
Formed by four arches, the portal is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture, with its beautiful sculptures very detailed.

The church of Saint-Avit dates Romance time(period), but it was widely changed. She(It) presents a plan in Latin cross which corresponds to a reconstruction. The building keeps(preserves) a bell tower-wall, a portal(gate) and a solar cross. The history(story) of the building is little documented, a mention(distinction) of the XVIth century allows us nevertheless to know that he(it) depends, at that time, of the abbey of Cadouin. The church of Saint-Avit-Rivière is registered on the inventory of Historic monuments.
