Art in the city: «Reason for being» by Sohrâb Chitan
The well/library on technique welcomes and inspires a choreographic creation of the company Sohrâb Chitan.
This choreographic creation with the title freely inspired by the book The reason for being. Meditation on the Ecclesiastes by Jacques Ellul sees five dancers evolve. s around the Puits/Bibliothèque sur la Technique by Suzanne Treister* to give life to the choreography of Sohrâb Chitan.
Ecclesiastes («those who address the crowd») appear powerless: everything is vain, that is to say futile and insignificant. «There is nothing new under the sun». These figures preach God’s plans for the world, making man’s destiny fragile and elusive.
Faced with this observation, the performance emphasizes the importance of this life for Man before he disappears from the world and the need to take pleasure.
The artists dance on an original composition by François Pincedé.

- Passionate about technology and the imagination it arouses, Suzanne Treister created the triptych entitled Les vaisseaux de Bordeaux at the invitation of Bordeaux Métropole and its public art program Art in the City. She was interested in the history of the Garonne as well as the systems that allow to control the water. After _Le vaisseau spatial_e aux Bassins-à-flot and The science fiction observatory/library in Floirac, she imagines on the banks of the Garonne, quai de Queyries, Le puits/bibliothèque sur la Technique.
This kiosk evokes neoclassical architecture but assumes a resolutely contemporary aspect: inside, around a dummy well that echoes the power of the river, Showcases feature books and quotes from leading thinkers who have alerted to the consequences of technology and our dependence on it. Among these authors is the law historian, sociologist and Pessacais theologian Jacques Ellul (1912-1994), considered a precursor of political ecology and decay, tireless critic of technological modernity, against the current of his time.
Flash tours are organized around the work of Suzanne Treister in addition to the choreographic proposal, between 2pm and 6pm.
