Guided tour: «Remarkable places for students and families»
Aquitanis, the Public Housing Office of Bordeaux Métropole, in partnership with the CROUS Bordeaux Aquitaine, invites you to discover, with Yves Simone, the university city of Budos as well as the residences «Le Général» (former barracks) and «Jean Boudet», located on the railway station of Ségur_. _
Former Ségur station, then barracks and water reservoir, the site, its layout and uses have been transformed according to the history and needs of the city. Let’s go back in time with the surveyor-guide Yves Simone and discover the history and singularities of these social, family and student housing complexes.
Budos University is a student residence built in the 1930s to meet the housing needs of this population.
More than just a room, the architect Jacques d'Welles sought to offer these young people a healthy living environment with modern comfort.
The new techniques implemented here are associated with unusual materials in Bordeaux: a combination of brick and white concrete. The Art Deco aesthetic of the university city of Budos further anchors this property, now labeled Remarkable Contemporary Architecture, in the modernist era that is the interwar period.
Following its military decommissioning in the 2000s, the Boudet Barracks was renovated to accommodate student and family social housing. The entire property has been restructured to include a mixed supply of housing and a garden.
Duration of the visit: 1h15 approximately.
