A noble lair in the 11th/ 12th century, Jumilhac was enlarged in the 13th/ 14th century, then became a castle in the 14th/ 16th century. Transformed into a residence under the influence of the Renaissance and topped with roofs with allegorical ridges unique in France around 1600 by Antoine Chapelle, alchemist and 1st Count of Jumilhac (1597), it was refurbished in the 17th century by François, 1st Marquis (1655), and his descendants, creating a French-style park and gardens.
Having become Dukes of Richelieu in 1822, they took over the destiny of their home in 1927 after a break of 116 years.
Not to be missed: the room of La Fileuse (legend and wall decorations), the dining room (paved and cupboard), the kitchen and its brass drums, the staircase "to the Queen", the living room of the 4 seasons (paneling, hunting scenes, carved wooden fireplace Louis XIII style), …
