Grand séminaire des Lazaristes Notre-Dame-du-Pouy
36 rue des lazaristes, 40100 Dax
Saint Vincent de Paul was born April 24th, 1581, near(about) Dax, in the village of Pouy, rechristened in the XIXth century Saint-Vincent-de-Paul. Having ordered priest in 1600, he based(established) in 1625 the Company(Society) of the priests of the Mission, more known as congregation of Mission or Lazarites because of installation, in the XVIIth century, their headquarters in the priory Saint-Lazare in Paris. The congregation is a company(society) of apostolic life devoted to the evangelization of the most divesting, to training(formation) of the clergy and to missions abroad. Property in the XVIIIth century of Jean-Baptiste-Théophile Sallenave, which made build the famous tower at the top of the hill, the domain of Pouy was given to the congregation in 1844 by its grand-daughter, Amanda de Luppé. The Lazarites saw opportunity in this donation to build a big(great) seminary(seminar) close to the native village of saint Vincent de Paul. Buildings(Ships) develop around a big(great) court(yard) framed(supervised) by galleries. Compound(Made up) of metallic posts carrying windows in lean-to, they catch up the gradient of the ground by some walking(steps) and unify the set(group) so. The north wing shelters the chapel which kept(preserved) a lot of its decorations(sets) of origin and in particular its stained-glass windows.
