The visitor who enters the domain of Maubuisson is first invited to stroll in the heart of a vast landscaped park, a stroll with romantic accents between wooded areas, terraces, flowerbeds and shaded basins. Along the way, the charm operates… First the barn and its period frame at the entrance to the park and then the white stone facade of the main building opens onto the spaces formerly frequented by the nuns, which have resisted time: the visiting room, the nuns' room, the chapter room, the latrines… Other spaces can be guessed, such as the church and the cloister: the disappeared stones are all creative tracks left to visitors. Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September from 2 pm to 6 pm/ All public/ Free/ Free course/ Information: 01 34 33 85 00

About the location

Abbaye de Maubuisson
Avenue Richard-de-Tour 95310 Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône
  • Val-d'Oise
  • Île-de-France
Of this former Cistercian abbey of women (Notre-Dame-La-Royale), founded by Blanche de Castille, remain the barn (building with impressive volume) and part of the square claustral (chapter room, parlor, room of nuns and latrines). The abbey rooms are vaulted with warheads, decorated with stained-glass windows and glazed terracotta green and yellow. The 10-hectare park features archaeological remains and ancient water works. Since 2001, the medieval abbey of Maubuisson is dedicated to the visual and visual arts, connected with the architectural heritage. This redefinition of the abbey as a contemporary art site raises the question of the articulation between architectural heritage and artistic creation.
