«The accordion of Zadkine»

A musical stroll of the workshops in the garden
Concert by the students of the CRR de Paris
In the form of a musical stroll, the pupils of the accordion class of the CRR of Paris propose their vision of the accordion of Ossip Zadkine.
By conceiving links, imagining affinities with the works of the sculptor of Russian origin, they give new sound colours to Johann Sebastian Bach’s keyboard works and interpret modern composers from all parts of Europe: Moritz Moszkowski, Wladislav Zolotarev, Torbjorn Lundquist, Annette Schlünz...
By interpreting works with jazz, popular, classical, but also expressionist and theatrical influences, Jean-Etienne Sotty’s class pays tribute to the modernity and inventiveness of the 20th century, inviting the public to a musical visit in the intimacy of the workshop-museum and a poetic rediscovery of the instrument that Ossip Zadkine himself played.
With the participation of students of the accordion class of Jean-Etienne Sotty.
The Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Paris (CRR) is a cultural institution of the City of Paris that is part of the network of Parisian conservatories and offers specialized education in dance, music and theater.
It welcomes 1750 pupils and students supervised by 300 teachers; In terms of disciplines, its educational proposal is the widest at the national level and its reputation is built on a teaching of excellence adapted to the expectations of future great amateurs as well as future professionals of the performing arts.
Internationally renowned it attracts on average 400 foreign students representing 41 different nationalities.
A conservatory is an art school, so the best way to discover its activity is to follow its cultural season: it is on stage, in front of the public, that students present the concrete outcome of their learning phases. In order to open up projects to the widest possible horizons, many partnerships are developed in the cultural, but also social field.

Just a stone’s throw from the Jardin du Luxembourg and Montparnasse, the Zadkine museum, a place of memory and charm, is dedicated to the work of the Russian-born sculptor Ossip Zadkine (1890-1967), a master of direct pruning and a major figure at the École de Paris. The house, and the studio that houses it, were the place of life and creation of the artist from 1928 to 1967\. Nestled in the greenery of its garden populated with sculptures, the museum was renovated on the occasion of its thirty years close to the spirit of workshop, which it is one of the last places to witness. The presentation of his collections, rethought around the question of matter, makes dialogue under the light of glass, plaster, earth, wood and stones. Two steps away from Montparnasse where Modigliani, Cendrars, Henry Miller and many others crossed paths, this place dedicated to one of the major representatives of the School of Paris, is an enclave with Slavic accents to (re)discover.
