Musée Gustave Moreau
14 rue Catherine de la Rochefoucauld 75009 Paris
Installed in the family home of the artist, the museum was entirely landscaped by Gustave Moreau (1826-1898). On the first floor, the painter’s apartments, presented as a small sentimental museum, display family portraits and works donated by his friends Théodore Chassériau, Eugène Fromentin and Edgar Degas. The ground floor, as well as the second and third floors occupied by huge workshops, feature several hundred paintings, watercolours, and more than four thousand drawings, giving a broad overview of the techniques and subjects of the man who was the undisputed master of French Symbolism. Unique house-workshop in Paris, the Gustave Moreau Museum has preserved all the magic of its original atmosphere. The museum is currently presenting the exhibition "Gustave Moreau. Les Fables de la Fontaine. Unpublished preparatory works". Due to the health crisis, the exhibition "Gustave Moreau. Les Fables de La Fontaine", originally scheduled for autumn 2020, is postponed in its original version
