Exhibition of «Inside Out» portraits

Photographs of the agents of the Archives and the inhabitants of the territory will be magnified in the form of a gigantic fresco on the ground. This project entitled Ils et elles font l'histoire, proposed by the artist JR as part of the Inside Out Project, offered the inhabitants of Plaine commune the opportunity to realize their portrait by inserting the photograph of a historical character of their choice, kept at the National Archives. Almost all of the photographs were taken by the Photo Club of Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, without which an operation of such magnitude would not have been possible. Created at the time of the French Revolution, the National Archives collect, preserve and enhance the central archives of the State. Nearly 300 linear kilometres of archives, from the 7th century to the present day, are preserved. They are now located on three sites: Fontainebleau, Paris and Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, the latter being open to the public since January 2013\. The Pierrefitte-sur-Seine site, designed by architect Massimiliano Fuksas, is dedicated to the archives after the French Revolution; it houses nearly 180 linear kilometres of public and private archives accessible in the reading room.
