Presentation of the old swimming school of Tourcoing
The former swimming school of Tourcoing A masterful place for the IMA-Tourcoing
Built in 1904, this building is part of the work of the mayor of Tourcoing, Gustave Dron. In a popular education initiative unprecedented at the time, he wanted every child in the city to learn to swim in what was then one of the first swimming schools in the country. Until its closure in 1999, this place welcomed all the school children in the town who learned swimming. The place also saw the glory hours of the Children of Neptune, water sports club, multiple French champion of water polo and trainer of great champions. This place, part of the collective identity, has been renovated and offers the IMA-Tourcoing the space necessary for the deployment of its know-how. The former swimming school of Tourcoing now hosts the Institut du monde arabe-Tourcoing.
For safety reasons, the pool of the old pool can no longer be visited. The presentation of the building and its history will take place in the lobby of the IMA-Tourcoing.
