Sous-préfecture
18, rue Armand, 10200 Bar-sur-Aube
The buildings of the sub-prefecture belong to the Departmental Council of Aube and have special historical value. The sub-prefecture has for premises the mansion of the master of the former salt loft of the city, where the inhabitants came to pay the gabelle, tax on salt set up by Philippe de Valois in 1340\. The premises then housed the former college of Bar-sur-Aube. The building became sub-prefecture in 1827 and was renovated in 2002\. The portal of the sub-prefecture, including the gallery, was classified as a Historical Monument by order of 18 March 1930.
