The town has a strong industrial character throughout its history due to its position as a railway node. Chalindrey was a heavily built and rebuilt city after World War II in the station district due to the numerous bombings on this town in occupied area. This is why, apart from the old village centre of Chalindrey, everything seems relatively recent.
