The seat of the Academy resides in a house made available to it by the municipality since 1809\. In the sixteenth century, it was the «Maison des Apothicaires» before the College of Surgeons moved there in the eighteenth century and Antoine Petit established there the office of free medical consultation for the indigents, An organization he founded and which the Revolution suppressed. Its 60 members include leading-edge scientific researchers, authors and recognized artists, as well as lawyers, engineers and judges. It is a microcosm and a melting pot, a reflection of the intellectual activity of the city and the department.
