For more than 200 years, by receiving the payment of the administrations which have their headquarters in the Indre, the Departmental Archives are therefore "the memory of the department". Kept at the Château-Raoul, then, from 1894 to 2003 in a neighbouring building, they are installed today in the former Normal School of Teachers, neo-gothic and neo-classical style, built by the departmental architect Henry Dauvergne in 1888-1889, refurbished by Sarea (A. Sarfati) and Architectes et Associés de Châteauroux (J.P. Broquet).
