Église Saint-Martin

The church of Saint-Martin de Lignières de Touraine unveils an exceptional set of frescoes from medieval times. Dating largely from the 12th century and remodelled in the 13th and 14th centuries, these frescoes are offered to visitors as a small Saint-Savin with complex iconography, rich in symbols. On the buttock of the apse is represented a Christ in glory. In the shaking of the central window, Abel and Cain make their offering to God. The barrel vault hosts three different episodes: to the north, scenes from Genesis and the parable of Lazarus and the wicked rich, to the south, Baptism and the Temptations of Christ. Below it, a fourth episode was undoubtedly represented. Finally, the lower part of the arch separating the choir from the nave presents a calendar of the Works of the months.
