Ginette Kolinka, itinerary of an Auschwitz survivor
Ginette Kolinka, a Holocaust survivor, was deported to Auschwitz in April 1944 at the age of 19 with her father, brother and nephew. The latter were murdered when the convoy arrived. Ginette was selected for work. For two decades, she accompanied groups to Auschwitz until October 2020, when she accompanied students to Birkenau for the last time. A cartoonist and a journalist are also part of this visit. From this journey was born a comic book, in which Ginette tells about her life before, during and after the Shoah. She also testifies for all those who have not returned. A tireless smuggler of memory, she makes transmission to the younger generations her daily struggle. Based on the comic strips, the exhibition puts Ginette Kolinka’s journey into a broader history of the persecution of Jews in France during the Second World War, based on period documents, archives and photographs.
