The Pontivy station, in Brittany’s railway history, retains a special place and poses, by the singularity of its genesis, the sensitive question of the geographical opening of Brittany. An intermediate stage on the Saint-Brieuc/Auray central axis, the 'frontier' station between the Compagnie d'Orléans and the Réseau de l'Ouest, its facilities were adapted to the functions of this establishment, which was born under the name of Napoleonville. The building, consisting of a five-bay central pavilion flanked by two low wings, consists of a second-class Orleans Company station. It is built of rubble masonry with granite base. An aesthetic effect, desired by the architects of the company, is sought by alternating red (brick) and white (tufa) horizontal bands.
