Discover the majestic fortress of Val
This imposing castle has six towers decorated with machicolations and topped with pepper-shaped roofs. The different covers of the towers give the roof of Val an original and shimmering coloration. Inside the main courtyard is a 15th-century Gothic chapel classified as a Historic Monument, dedicated to Saint Blaise. The entrance to the castle is made by an iron reinforced door, whose eardrum is decorated with a bas-relief representing the coat of arms of d'Estaing. A spiral staircase leads to the different floors from a vestibule that was originally an inner courtyard. The first floor houses three large rooms whose decoration (ceilings and fireplaces) dates back to the mid-19th century. The Val Castle team opens its doors to you during the European Heritage Days.
