About the location

Villa Berliet

The XXth century Main home of the family of the famous car manufacturer until 1944, the villa Berliet sheltered the command of the American army, then the consulate of England, that of Italy, before welcoming the training centre and reception centre of the company Berliet from 1956\. Since 1982, she(it) became the seat(siege) of Foundation Marius-Berliet, objective of which is the promotion(valuation) of automobile heritage. The villa Berliet is registered on the additional inventory of historic monuments since 1989\. It is in 1910 on that Marius Berliet decides to make build a family house realisation of which he commands(orders) the architect Paul Bruyas. The Berliet de Monplaisir factory is booming and Marius Berliet plans to make it build a piece of news(short story) in Vénissieux. So, the location of the villa is defined halfway between both workplaces, in the district of Montchat. The whole residential property represents about 8.000 m2, without counting 4.212 m2 rented(praised) to the civil Homes of Lyons for playgrounds and a kitchen garden. The villa is finished(ended) in 1912, but several architects are requested between 1913 and 1916 to improve the building; an extension is built in 1928 to shelter a working room, a playroom(gaming room) and rooms(chambers). The construction of this new wing is managed by the architect Paul Senglet according to the plans of Alexandre Arluc. The house, graduated on three levels, divides into five bodies of buildings(ships) of different heights. The basement is intended(designed) for the technical premises(places) or of service(department). The ground floor contains the hall of reception, the office(desk), the cooking(kitchen), the lounge(show) and the dining room. Finally, the first floor receives rooms(chambers) and bathrooms; attic are intended(designed) for the servants. So, the left(awkward) part(party) of the building is devoted to family life, while right is it in service(department).
