Acadians in Nantes
Did you say L'Acadie? Do you know that more than 2,000 Acadians lived in Nantes, Rezé, Paimboeuf and his region between 1758 and 1785? It is following the "Great Upheaval", that is to say the deportation of about 12,000 Acadians from 1755 onwards. 1st French colony created in North America from 1604, and more than 150 after, men, women and children were exiled against their will by the English authorities. Some met in Nantes for a new start for Louisiana. The Acadian fresco in Nantes, by painter Robert Dafford, is a precious testimony to this historical fact that is still too little known. If you are curious to know more, the Association Bretagne-Acadie-Lousiane, at the initiative of this project, invites you to visit rue des Acadiens for a guided tour of the history of Acadia and the Acadian people.
