The hemp kiln is a construction used to dry hemp. Hemp is a plant with palmate leaves, cultivated for its stem, providing an excellent textile fiber and for its seeds, or oak. It is also used to make ropes. The cultivation of hemp is done in several stages of preparation: bottling, erupting, rouissage, grinding and smoothing.
This type of structure is found in areas where hemp was cultivated in the 19th century, notably in Sarthe and a small part of the Orne, Mayenne and Indre-et-Loire.
