Exhibition: Of bricks and stones, slate, metal and wood, our houses were built thanks to the know-how of man
From bricks and stones, slate, metal and wood, for millennia our homes have been built by the hand of man with patience, know-how and love. We propose you an exhibition of photos of the restorations practiced in the Arcis, highlighting the materials used, the respect of our environment, the transmission of our know-how. In addition, an exhibition of photographs on tarpaulins of historic sites in Mayenne will show you the richness of our territory: chimneys, stairs, frames, dovecote, mill… It is by re-examining the practices, the lessons learned from traditions, the continuity of know-how, that heritage actors prepare the heritage of tomorrow for a more sustainable future. By pursuing the UN’s sustainable development goals, for example, heritage professionals favour restorations that take into account reuse and natural materials, closer to environmental requirements and that historical monuments impress with their energy resilience. Heritage contributes to the revitalization and economic and tourism development of the territories and to the conservation of know-how present throughout the territory; it is also a resource of local jobs that cannot be relocated. All these issues will be highlighted by the 2022 European Heritage Days.» Ministry of Culture
