Free visit of the exhibition «My heart is a suspended lute» - Prinz Gholam
Free visit of the first exhibition in France of the Berliner duo Prinz Gholam. Prinz Gholam pays tribute to the frescoes of the castle and dialogue freely with the place.
For the European Heritage Days, the Chateau de Rochechouart invites you to discover Prinz Gholam’s project in homage to the 16th century frescoes that the museum houses.
Since 2001, Prinz Gholam has developed a multidisciplinary practice including performance, video, photography and drawing.
Their work focuses on the study of the positioning of human bodies through cultural constructions and the world in which we live. It consists of choreographic or graphic sequences in which Prinz Gholam treats and reinterprets a range of images and behaviours from paintings and sculptures from the History of Art, films and images from the media.
Prinz Gholam thus highlights the political and social dimension of the human body through the history of its representation.
In residence at the Villa Massimo in Rome in 2020, Prinz Gholam began work around the mask as an object of metamorphosis.
In the context of the pandemic, this object obviously has a particular burden for artists. The mask is thus considered as an element of protection but also of transgression. Funerary mask, parade, theatre, dance, it is thus omnipresent in the history of humanity. The mask evokes the ritualized body as much as the theatrical body of the Comedia dell'Arte and the liberated carnival body. The mask in this exposes more than it conceals.
For this first exhibition in a French museum, Prinz Gholam displays a collection of original works that take in the context of the castle of Rochechouart and the frescoes it houses a very special dimension.
