From the 12th century abbey to the glory of Saint Girons, only the crypt is still visible today on the heights of the city. A true architectural gem whose column capitals are classified as Historical Monuments, this place, whose surroundings have been completely refurbished, attracts every year many visitors.
Also a place of worship for many pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela, the crypt was intended for the preservation and veneration of the relics of Saint Girons. It is accessed by 2 side stairs built in the thickness of the walls. In the center 4 marble columns surround the slightly raised ground where was the tomb of Saint Girons. Here you can admire the 14 Romanesque capitals whose iconography is often similar to those of the abbey of Saint-Sever.
