You are invited to come and discover the gardens of Pourtaou and, for the first time in its history, the Gloriette, the poet’s last home, recently restored thanks to the foundation of the heritage and the lotto of heritage.
Two 30-minute tours are offered continuously:

Garden tour

Meet at the intersection of the Pourtaou road and the Gloriette road
The free visit is possible:

Poet, novelist, painter, sculptor, designer of his house, his gardens and his “gloriette”, creator of furniture, assembler of objects and works of all kinds, with a prolific imagination, Jean Rameau (1858 - 1942) conceived at Pourtaou, at Cauneille, a unique and composite work that escapes the usual canons of art history. Like Edmond Rostand, whom he knew, Jean Rameau created with his own hands a poem of architecture, ornaments and flowered flower beds. In the heart of a hilly and wooded landscape overlooking the Gave de Pau – the idyllic setting of the poet’s new Arcadia – he summoned his loved ones and literary peers to his home, with a syncretism never far removed from a staging of his personality. The accumulation of objects rubs shoulders with a personal conception of the decor, made with an approximate talent, but always full of poetry and fun, while the JR monogram recalls here and there who is the master of the place.
