«Splendid and bucolic, Domaine Chavat offers an enchanted parenthesis.» Overlooking the Garonne in the municipality of Podensac, Domaine Chavat is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Aquitaine. This former winery owes its renaissance, at the beginning of the 20th century, to a Bordeaux industrialist, François Thévenot. The garden, with its harmonious lines and balanced proportions, was designed in 1916 by the famous Parisian landscape architect Charles Bouhana. Following the tradition of the Italian gardens, François Thévenot punctuates the various landscape scenes of ancient sculptures. Composed in English, but also in French, with a mirror of water coloured by the grace of a magnificent rose garden, this garden tells a more intimate story: that of an entrepreneur, creator of overworked genius, who sought a haven of peace in this green setting. At the sale of the estate in 1934, the city offered, until the dawn of the 21st century, this place of tranquility to the residents
