Le Blockhaus de la Corniche

German troops arrived on the Basque coast on 27 June 1940\. From there, they will fortify their positions in the occupied area between the Adour and the Spanish border. Thus, a German battery bearing the name of BA 59, 59th installation of the sector of Bayonne, will be installed in Urrugne from February 1941\. Overlooking the cliffs of the Corniche, a 2-storey flanking casemate remains the only vestige in good condition of a vast military camp. This position was integrated into the Atlantic Wall in 1942\. At the end of the war the other casemates will be destroyed, but it is possible to see remains at low tide below the cliffs.
