Guided tour of the Ferme-Manoir du Cacharat from the 17th century.
Ferme-Manoir du Cacharat XVII S.
The manor farms, one of the symbols of the Bessin villages, are returned to us in their unique style. There are no fewer than a dozen manor farms in the village. They all have the same characteristics: a courtyard surrounded by the buildings necessary for the operation of the farm, a home for the inhabitants, all forming a closed and defensive ensemble. These farms were built by rich farmers or small nobility between the 16th and 17th century.
Thus, the manor of Cacharat is a typical manor of the 17th century, built by a rich and protestant peasant family (as evidenced by the tombs inside the estate). Although a simple farmhouse, the buildings are imposing but richly decorated and harmonious.
The majestic triple portal of the 17th century consists of two pedestrian gates, one of which has been blocked since its construction. The middle door is the main entrance. All the doors are surmounted by imposing semi-circular pediments.
