Concert: Bach in the spotlight
Johann Sebastian Bach leaves behind a remarkable work and imprint. Surprisingly, in his lifetime he was less well known than some of his contemporaries, such as Georg Philipp Telemann, who had a glorious career and enjoyed international renown, notably thanks to his Parisian Quartets, one of which was on the programme of this concert. Bach’s sonatas for flute, violin and continuo are works of the composer’s great maturity that reach new heights in chamber music. The trio sonata «of the Musical Offering» is one of those monuments that he leaves to posterity to testify to his sovereign mastery of counterpoint. The Musical Offering is today considered as one of the greatest works of Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as The Art of the Fugue and the Goldberg Variations.
