Guided tour of the castle of La Verrière
Built from the 16th century, the castle has a turbulent history and many owners. If the construction of the current building began in 1507, it was enriched in the 17th century with gardens entrusted to the greatest landscapers and gardeners. So the perspective of the park, today protected under the title of Historical Monuments, could have been created by Le Nôtre. In the 1950s, it was bought by the MGEN (Mutuelle Générale de l'Éducation Nationale) to set up an innovative psychiatric centre under the aegis of Marcel Rivière, a teacher and founding president of the MGEN. The guided site allows you to discover the history and architecture of this castle, from its embellishment in the Great Century to its chapel in the style of the Ateliers d'Art Sacré through its salons restored by a rich American and its pretty bathroom all marble and mirrors.
