Guided tour of La Commanderie
The Commanderie de La Villedieu was one of the many estates of the Order of the Templars of the West, from the 12th to the beginning of the 14th century. These great monastic foundations were intended to provide the human, financial and logistical means to enable the Order to fight in the Middle East. From this period the chapel and the guards building remain. The farm, sold during the Revolution as a national property, was the largest farm in Elancourt, modernised in the 19th century and operated until 1963, before being transformed into a cultural centre. The tour of the site will make you discover the history and architecture of the Commandery of the Templars of the Villedieu, from its foundation by the monks-soldiers of the Order of the Temple at the end of the twelfth century until the contemporary restorations, through the time when the chapel was a hay barn.
