Guided tour of the Creteil Town Hall
Built between 1972 and 1974, the City Hall of Créteil is the work of the architect Pierre Dufau, also chief architect of the «Nouveau Créteil». Having become the capital of the Val-de-Marne department, Créteil acquired a town hall adapted to the development of its services. The first meeting of the city council in this new building was held on December 5, 1974. The City Hall consists of two elements: a tower of 11 floors, measuring 75 meters high, housing the main administrative services, and a large cylinder of 4 levels intended for the reception of the public. As the nature of the basement (former sand quarries) did not allow for the construction of foundations, the architect chose to build the building according to the principle of suspension. The tower rests on a single central support, whose stakes descend very deeply into the earth. At the top of the tower, 10 concrete branches each have a metal suspension to which, on each floor, is attached the metal framework of the concrete floor.
