Meetings and demonstrations with the ornamentalist sculptor François Gilles
Echoing the years of training in ornamental sculpture that Ossip Zadkine received during his youth, the museum invites the public to a meeting with the ornamental sculptor François Gilles.
The latter will highlight the various technical aspects of Zadkine’s work to give another reading. To make discover the sculptor’s profession in all its richness, its purpose will be based on demonstrations of wood cutting and a contextual setting of the techniques explained.
François Gilles, sculptor
François Gilles is both an ornamentalist sculptor and art historian. Best apprentice in France and graduate of the Ecole Boulle, he is also a former student normalian of the ENS Cachan, associate and PhD student in art history.
His studio is located in Yonne, where he works for restoration and restitution projects for historical monuments such as the Palace of Versailles. He also collaborates for contemporary decoration projects where he implements the different facets of the sculptor’s know-how.
