These Japanese poetic works by Guillaume Bottazzi, realized in 2020, are visible to the public during the European Heritage Days.
Evanescent and like stars, these works lead us to travel in unreality by creating a poetic, enchanting space that evolves according to our imagination. These four particularly refined paintings recall the country of the Rising Sun where the artist has been working since 2004.
These poetic creations are made with enamels. This material is a natural powder material composed of different minerals. Visible to the passerby from the bay windows, these paintings are part of the heritage of Greater Paris.
Guillaume Bottazzi has been active for 30 years in Europe, Asia and the United States. The visual artist has signed over 100 works of art in public spaces. He receives private and public commissions for museums, such as the Miyanomori Museum of Art, which commissioned him the largest painting in Japan that dresses the museum, the Century Art Museum or the Mori Museum; cities, such as Brussels Capital or the city of Tokyo, with a work of 100m²; of ministries, such as the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Health.
Guillaume Bottazzi and Japan:
In 2004, the artist was in residence in Japan where he spent much of his time until 2012.
In 2010, under the initiative of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation of History and Culture, the National Art Centre, the Suntory Museum of Art, the City of Tokyo, Mori Building Co. Ltd and the Mori Art Museum, Guillaume Bottazzi has created an abstract and monumental work of 100 m², in the heart of Tokyo.
In 2011, the Miyanomori International Museum of Art in Japan commissioned him to paint the largest painting in the country, which dresses all the walls of the museum and organizes an exhibition of his works. The entries of this personal exhibition by Guillaume Bottazzi helped support the victims of the earthquake and tsunami. This museum has the largest collection of Christo in Asia and Oceania and some 3,000 photographs by artist Daido Moriyama. His collection also includes works by artists Lucio Fontana, Frank Stella, Jasper Johns, Lee Ufan and Guillaume Bottazzi.
In 2012, Mori Building, following the selection of the Mori Art Museum, commissioned several works from the artist. They take place in the new skyscraper Ark Hills Sengokuyama, in the heart of the new Toranomon district in central Tokyo.
Since 2004, Guillaume Bottazzi has been represented by the Itsutsuji gallery. This major gallery in Japan allowed him to win with several artistic commissions. She discovered artists like Simon Hantaï, Pierre Soulages, Yayoi Kusama, Ay-o, but also introduced movements like the Supports/Surfaces group, with Claude Viallat for example.
