The Commanderie de La Villedieu was one of the many estates of the Order of the Templars of the West, from the 12th to the beginning of the 14th century. These great monastic foundations were intended to provide the human, financial and logistical means to enable the Order to fight in the Middle East. From this period the chapel and the guards building remain. The farm, sold during the Revolution as a national property, was the largest farm in Elancourt, modernised in the 19th century and operated until 1963, before being transformed into a cultural centre. This former Templar preceptory, built in part since the thirteenth century (chapel), was over the centuries transformed exclusively into a farm: in the nineteenth century the chapel becomes even hay barn! Restored at the end of the 20th century and in the 21st century, this high place of local heritage now exhibits contemporary art. The chapel has been listed as a Historical Monument since 1926.
