Amblemanic site of the heritage foundation, mission Stèphane BERN 2020. Heritage of Regional Interest. The Fort of Cormeilles was built between 1874 and 1877 as part of the creation of the entrenched camp of Paris, by General Séré de Rivière. Built on nearly 10 hectares, it could receive 64 guns with 1,100 troop men and 24 officers. In 1914 it was among the first to be equipped with an anti-aircraft battery, to shoot down the Zeppelins who had come to bomb the capital. Between the two wars he served as staff for a large reserve DCA regiment, the 407th RADCA. The Germans used the site to store torpedoes and it served as a prison for 10 years after the Second World War. In 1967, it was taken over by the 23rd Rima de Maisons-Laffitte, where it set up a commando initiation centre that functioned until 1997. The Fort was then sold to the Agence des Espaces Verts of the «Ile de France» region, which entrusted it to the «Friends of the Fort de Cormeilles» association in 1999. The association "AFC" manages the site and refurbishes it: artists' workshops are installed there and many film shootings have occurred there in 15 years (more than 40). The association has recently opened a military museum: it covers the period of the Second Empire to the present day, with particular emphasis on fortification, the French army from 1914 to the present day, the National Service and the Reserve troops. Three rooms are open to visitors.
