«L'Arsenal du Chimiste au 18e siècle»: presentation of the catalogue raisonné of the Lavoisier collections
Antoine Laurent Lavoisier’s extensive collection of instruments is not the only collection of 18th-century chemical instruments and apparatus, but it is undoubtedly the most important.
The book "L'Arsenal du Chimiste au 18e siècle, Les laboratoires d'Antoine Laurent Lavoisier (1743-1794)", co-written by Marco Beretta and Paolo Brenni (Brill, 2022), constitutes the first catalogue raisonné of this collection, remarkable not only for the quality of a large number of objects, but also for the number of elements that have reached us (about 600 pieces).
Because of the exceptional richness and variety of the instruments presented, this catalogue also offers, for the first time, a global study of the cultural and social context in which Lavoisier’s experimental activities were inscribed.
The lecture is presented by Marco Beretta, co-author of the book.
This event is organized in tribute to Paolo Brenni.
