Saturday 18 September 2022 at 11am Inauguration at the sheepfold of the departure of the historic route and discovery of the panels. We chose to begin our dive into the history of Avesnes-le-Comte with the Bergerie: this place symbolizes, better than any other perhaps, the link between the past and the future of our village. 1. Departure from the circuit to the Bergerie: location of an old farm and more precisely of a sheepfold. 2. Church of Saint Nicholas and its Public Garden: Church of the XV and XVI, choir of the XII, entirely vaulted building which consists of a small choir flanked by a sacristy erected in 1862 and 4 bays with aisles. Built from sandstone and flint for the bedrock and white limestone of the country. 3. The Castle: This castle has been demolished and rebuilt over time. It was sold and demolished in 1774. There were still remains of a tower until 1959. 4. Old Railway Station: Le Tortillard: The railway (currently Léon VAHE Street) was commissioned in 1895. The train called "the tortillard" made the journey Lens-Frévent, 53? 738 km in 3h30. This train served 16 cities and villages. 5. The Market Square: The present square was built in 1870 after the demolition of the houses along the Grande Rue. 6. Water tower square: built on the site of the former grain market. 7. Town Hall and Bérégovoy Square: The construction of the Town Hall lasted from 1830 to 1832. The Rue Neuve wing will be inaugurated on December 12, 1987 at the same time as the Bérégovoy square. Then back to the Bergerie by taking the main street on your left down the way you can discover the plaque commemorating two Frenchofficiers (prison guards) Killed by German soldiers during World War II while trying to hide from the enemy in the Deneuville farm.
