Access to the Miraculous Fountain
Visit of the Santa Casa being restored by the painter Pierre Emilien GRENIER (painter already (re)known in Laonnois)
This old chapel was square in shape, with a heavy and indecisive look and a depressed vault. It contained «a fairly richly decorated altar, a rough painting of the history of the knights, a rather poor treasure and two trunks, one for the hospice, the other for the decoration of the chapel».
For a long time the chapel and the fountain depended on the Hotel-Dieu.
So we know that a fresco told pilgrims who could not read, the story of the three knights.
Unfortunately this fresco was painted on plaster, which over time was detached from its brick support. And the whole disappeared forever. A work by a completely annihilated artist.
The Association of Friends of the Basilica and the Organ had a project to restore the Sancta Casa. In 2020, great artist Pierre Grenier , famous for his frescoes painted on the walls of the alleys of the city of Laon.
