The Sanatorium of Zuydcoote (now Zuydcoote Maritime Hospital) was built under the impetus of Georges Vancauwenberghe, mayor of Saint-Pol sur Mer, and was inaugurated on 25 July 1910\. It included a state-of-the-art farm at the time, the North Farm, which provided most of the food needs of Sanatorium residents. Built in 1910, on the fringes of the Dewulf Dune, the North Farm together with the latter constitutes a remarkable architectural and heritage complex, of Flemish neo-classical architectural style, almost unique in Western Europe. It is an industrial farm in red bars, red and white brick.
Composed of a dozen buildings distributed on the sides of a quadrilateral built of 100 m wide by 170 m long surrounded by a ditch and pastures, it was specialized in animal husbandry and formed, with the farms South and South-West, an agricultural complex that is efficient and exemplary from the point of view of hygiene.
