Exhibition "Small points, counterpoint to William Morris"
Small points is a collective exhibition supported by the Musée La Piscine de Roubaix.
"Sets of floral ornaments, meticulous assemblages, embroideries without rules and everything, embroidering a garden as one embroiders a carpet, darning, scarring, contemporary artists grasp the new language of embroidery in a wide variety of approaches to tell a story at the antipode of our grandmothers' embroideries. Embroidery is no longer considered a leisure or a typically feminine activity, nor a craft in the field of art, but as an art. It is more natural to embroider than to paint with oil, the swallows have embroidered the sky for thousands of centuries.” (Jean Arp, Jours effeuillés, 1966)
Built in 1893, the Green House is the result of the combined talents of architect Auguste-Georges Dubois, sculptor André Laoust and ceramicist Emile Muller. Its green glazed terracotta façade is decorated with spectacular decorative elements. This particular house with an eclectic style now houses the studio of artist Hugo Laruelle.
