EXHIBITION OF A GALLO-ROMAN POTTERY WORKSHOP IN THE RUE-DES-VIGNES, PRESENTATION OF THE EXCAVATIONS OF THE PLACE KNOWN AS "LES QUATRE BORNES
The potters' workshop of the «Quatre Bornes» at Rues-des-Vignes is located along the Roman Belgica, on the plateau overlooking the right bank of the Scheldt, in front of a large sanctuary located on the other bank, near the heart of the current village. The Scheldt could certainly have been built up to that point, which also explains the foundation of the Vaucelles abbey there. The workshop was to cover more than 5,000 m2, half of which was searched. On this area, all the stages of the work of the land, with the exception of its extraction, have been revealed, but also the living spaces of artisans and their families. This workshop bordering the west side of the road was occupied from the 60s to the 260s AD, before and after, the land remained devoted to agriculture.
