The museum of Valenciennes belongs to this generation of palace of Fine Arts built under the IIIth Republic conceived(designed) with wide spaces and monumental proportions emphasising here wonderfully a prestigious collection, of Gallo-Roman archaeology until the XXth century, with as fortes the Flemish painting(paint) of the XVIIth century (Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens), the charm of the XVIIIth century around Antoine Watteau and the triumph of the sculpture of the XXth century with Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux and his(her) contemporaries such Lemaire and Hiolle
